Tripura Police arrested an Iranian and Bangladeshi national from a market at Amatoli police station on the outskirts of Agartala and produced the duo before a local Court on Thursday.

The duo, Iranian national named Yakub Yazdanbakhsh and a Bangladesh citizen named Shahin Mondal,  was sent to five-day police custody today.

The police arrested them due to their suspected involvement with Pakistani militants. This significant step was taken to further investigate their alleged connections.

Tripura-Iranian-Bangladesh-NationalAccording to a senior police officer, the arrests took place on Wednesday in the Aswani market area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Amatoli police station on the outskirts of Agartala.

The Iranian individual, Yakub Yazdanbakhsh, and the Bangladeshi national, Shahin Mondal, were apprehended during the operation.

During the arrest, both individuals failed to provide valid passports or any other travel documents to the police. As a result, the authorities confiscated their mobile phones as part of the ongoing investigation.

To their surprise, the police discovered photos of Pakistani militant camps on the confiscated devices, adding weight to the suspicion of their involvement with the said militants.

Upon further inquiry, the Iranian man, Yakub Yazdanbakhsh, revealed to the police that he initially traveled to Thailand and then proceeded to Nepal before illegally entering India through Bangladesh, accompanied by the Bangladeshi national, Shahin Mondal.

This disclosure provided additional insights into their route and raised concerns regarding their intentions and possible connections.

“We are currently interrogating the duo and treating this matter with utmost seriousness,” stated the police officer in charge of the investigation.

The authorities are diligently probing their backgrounds, examining the confiscated evidence, and exploring all possible angles to uncover any potential links with Pakistani militants.

The gravity of the situation underscores the need for a thorough investigation to ensure the safety and security of the region. (Edited)
