Tripura Police recovered country-made guns and other items from a forest in Khowai district on Thursday night. The recovery came in the wake of the arrest of an arms smuggler from the same district.
In a joint raid, TSR and Police forces recovered one country-made gun, gun powder and some other articles from a forest at the Champahaor area in Khowai on Thursday night.
Acting on a tip-off, jawans of 10 bn TSR of Kalabagan along with Champahaor Police raided a densely forested area at Utalabari under Champahaor PS. The movement of some people in a suspicious manner in the area was reported earlier. Based on the information, the joint team reached the spot on Thursday night and kept waiting. As some people started to gather at a place deep in the forest, security personnel closed in and challenged them. Sensing danger, the ‘suspicious’ persons fled away from the area. However, the security personnel were successful in recovering one country-made gun, gun powder, bearings of bi-cycle etc.
Only a few days ago, Champahaor police arrested one person from Bihar in connection with arms smuggling. With the recovery of the country-made guns, a sense of insecurity is brewing among the locals.
“With the Assembly, Polls are round the corner, the incidents of recovery of arms and arrest of an arms smuggler from areas under the same Police Station in Khowai are becoming a major concern among the common people”, commented a Champahaoar based person.
