Congress Working Committee Member and AICC in-charge for Tripura Dr Ajoy Kumar on Sunday took a swipe at the Central government on Agnipath Scheme.
Dr Kumar came down heavily on the Modi-led Union government over the ‘Agnipath’ issue and pointed out countrywide agitation against the scheme.
He referred to BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s alleged comment of giving preference to recruit ‘Agniveers’ as security guards once their tenure of service is over.
“Kailash Vijayvargiya’s comment makes it clear what attitude the BJP bears towards the hardworking youth of the country. In Tripura as well, there will be thousands of youth who have been preparing for years to get a scope in the armed forces”, he said.
Dr Kumar also explained as to how this scheme is a direct attack on the pension and retiral benefits of the jawans.
Dr Ajoy Kumar was addressing a press meet in Agartala on Sunday in presence of party’s central leader Szarita Laitphlang, Congress candidate for the 8-Bordowali seat Asish Kumar Saha and other leaders. He held the press conference hours after Dr Sarma attended a series of political events to canvass votes for BJP candidates.
Talking to the media, Dr Kumar said, “The Assam Chief Minister should apologize for his past deeds. He was instrumental when the poll manifesto of the BJP was drafted before the 2018 assembly elections. Not a single promise made during the previous assembly elections was fulfilled by the BJP after it was voted to power”.
The Congress leader continued and said, with time for another election has come, Sarma has once again arrived for campaigning in Tripura. Seeking an apology first, Sarma should confess that they had befooled people of Tripura in 2018.
On Trinamool Congress, Dr Kumar said, “The Trinamool Congress is out of syllabus here in Tripura. They stand nowhere in the race. They have lost whatever they gained, but making noises which have no political significance”.
