A media workshop “Vartalap” was held on Tuesday at Bishalgarh New Town Hall with working journalists of the Sepahijala district.
The workshop was organized by the Agartala branch of the Press Information Bureau.
Total 50 journalists from the district participated in this workshop organized on social development, and good governance on the occasion of 9 years of the current central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with developmental journalism.
Speaking as the chief guest in the inaugural session, Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate Binay Bhushan Das said that the role of media and journalists in implementing the development projects of the government is immense.
“Oftentimes, the lapses in implementation of these projects come to light through journalistic reports. Through this, the development projects at the administrative level are refined as well as the implementation of public welfare projects in the right direction is possible.
Developmental journalism has a great role in the development of a developed state and through such workshops, as developmental journalism is enriched, the public welfare of the state can also be enriched”, said the SDM.
The SDM has highlighted various aspects of the implementation of the Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, the Infrastructure Development Programme, and the Ujjwala Scheme.
However, the guidelines of such developmental schemes should be disseminated in the form of booklets and through social media, he said.
For this, he drew the attention of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
On the day, Sanjib Deb, a senior journalist of the state and editor of Northeast Colors, discussed development journalism, and the role of journalists in development.
He gave several examples of the challenges faced by journalists while performing their professional duties.
He said that in the field of developmental journalism, the media and journalists work as a bridge to take the various projects of the government to the common people.
Deb also raised an aspect of various government projects and said that if the people do not get fair benefits due to some technical reason, then the journalists highlight the errors, but then the government corrects these errors and arranges for the people to get fair benefits.
Veteran journalist Shekhar Dutta highlighted his long experience in the journalism profession and discussed how journalists should do journalism for the welfare of the people by reporting both positive and negative news.
Swapan Chakraborty, a veteran journalist of the Sepahijala district, said that journalists should not limit themselves to the guest’s speech while reporting on the opening ceremony of a project.
He also spoke about the need to conduct news workshops from the panchayat level.
Bishalgarh Press Club Secretary Tajul Islam congratulated the Press Information Bureau for organizing the media workshop in the Bishalgarh subdivision of Sepahijala district and said that more such programs should be held.
