The Tripura Rehabilitation Plantation Corporation Limited (TRPC), a Government of Tripura undertaking, has announced that it will be procuring rubber directly from growers to give a boost to rubber sector in Tripura.
The rubber will be procured at a rate of Rs 110 per kg.
The announcement was made by TRPC Chairman Patal Kanya Jamatia during a press conference held earlier today.
Addressing the media representatives, Jamatia expressed the corporation’s commitment to the comprehensive development of the rubber industry in Tripura. Effective from May 1, 2023, TRPC has decided to procure rubber from farmers at the mentioned rate.
Jamatia also shared another significant decision taken by the corporation, stating, “Furthermore, TRPC has decided to ensure timely payment of wages to all its employees within the first week of every month.”
Highlighting the economic constraints faced by TRPC, Jamatia mentioned that although the state government had granted a 12% Dearness Allowance (DA) to government employees before the 2023 assembly elections, TRPC was unable to implement the same due to financial limitations.
“The employees associated with TRPC will be promptly provided with a 12% DA, and efforts will be made to regularize Daily Rated Workers (DRWs) and other contractual employees,” she affirmed.
In addition to the procurement plan, the TRPC Chairman announced the establishment of new collection centers and rubber processing units across the state. These initiatives aim to facilitate increased rubber production and utilization.
Furthermore, in a move to reduce wastage and maximize resource utilization, an industry for plywood production will be established in the Bodhjungnagar area. This will ensure that rubber trees are effectively utilized beyond their primary purpose.
During the press conference, Deputy Manager Santosh Debbarma, West Zone Deputy Manager Abhijit Roy, and the Managing Director of TRPC were also present, emphasizing the significance of these initiatives for the rubber industry in Tripura.
The TRPC’s latest decisions are expected to provide a significant boost to the rubber plantation sector in Tripura and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
