Schools in Tripura are set to get ‘Child Rights Club’ soon to curb instances of child marriage, child abuse and child labour in the State.

 

Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) in collaboration with the State Education department will launch ‘Child Rights Club’ in schools, said chairperson of TCPCR, Nilima Ghosh.

 

Addressing a press conference in Agartala on Tuesday, Ghosh said the Child rights commission had a discussion with Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath for setting up Child Rights Club in schools. She said the talks were fruitful and the Education Minister assured necessary help.

 

“It is expected that the Child Rights Club will start its journey in schools in Tripura after the on-going exams are over”, she said.

 

The Chairperson of TCPCR also detailed the role and purpose of the Club. She said if any instances of child marriage, child abuse and Child labour occur in the area, concerned Child Rights Club of the School of that area would inform the TCPCR and the TCPCR will soon take an action, if the instances come under its jurisdiction.

 

The Clubs will play a crucial role in preventing child marriages, abuses and instances of child labour in the State, she commented.  

 

Ghosh also referred to a Supreme Court ruling on maximum weight of school bags that students carry. The Chairperson of the TCPCR said that the TCPCR started working to ensure that SC ruling is being followed in the private as well as government run schools.
