Tripura Seal Rs 3,800 Cr MoUs, AI-Tech Key to Future Growth: CM
Agartala Jan 29: Tripura has taken a significant step towards strengthening its industrial base with the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth around Rs 3,800 crore. This has marked a major boost to investment confidence in the state. The agreements were finalised following the Tripura Business Conclave, reflecting growing interest from both national and private sector players.
Emphasising the importance of technology-driven growth, the Chief Minister said the era of artificial intelligence and 5G has made data infrastructure crucial for development. In this direction, work has begun on setting up Airtel’s data centre in Tripura, which will be the first of its kind in the North Eastern region.
Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha highlighted the investment momentum while inaugurating the 36th Tripura Industries and Commerce Fair at the Hapania International Fair Ground on Thursday. He said the present government has focused on creating a business-friendly environment by simplifying policies, offering incentives and ensuring institutional support for industries.
Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, along with several senior ministers, legislators and officials, attended the inauguration ceremony. The industrial and trade fair will continue until February 12, showcasing products, enterprises and investment opportunities from across the state.
According to the Chief Minister, Tripura’s natural resources—such as bamboo and cane, pineapple, agarwood and rubber—offer immense scope for value-based industries. He noted that an agarwood-based industrial cluster with an estimated investment potential of nearly ₹2,000 crore could be developed in the state. Discussions are also underway with a leading business group to establish an ethanol plant using bamboo, which is abundantly available in Tripura.
He further stated that continuous efforts are being made to strengthen the workforce through skill development programmes, while investor engagement is being encouraged through regular conclaves and summits. The MoUs signed after the Tripura Business Conclave, he said, have laid a strong foundation for future industrial expansion in the state.

The Chief Minister also underlined the role of women in economic growth, noting that financial empowerment of women directly contributes to overall development. He said self-help group members in Tripura have so far received ₹700 crore as revolving funds and ₹1,000 crore in bank loans, leading to the creation of over 1.08 lakh “Lakhpati Didis”.
He added that the government is working to enhance the market appeal of locally produced bamboo and cane products by providing specialised training to artisans, including exploring international exposure opportunities. MoUs have already been signed with major organisations such as Patanjali and the Taj Group, while members of the Tripura diaspora—many from the IT sector—have also expressed interest in investing in the state.
