People in Tripura are all set to celebrate Christmas tomorrow with fanfare, gaiety and religiosity. Enthusiasm and festive mood are already in the air in Agartala and other parts of the State.

Several areas in the city were illuminated while the burning Bethlehem Stars in shops, houses and restaurants have added extra colour and have created festive fervor. A mad rush of the crowd on the eve of the X-mass was noticed for buying cakes, chocolates, gifts X-mass trees and other items. Bubbling with joy, children are shaking hands with the ‘Santa Clause’ and are posing for a selfie.

Mariam Nagar Church near Agartala will be the main attraction. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will formally inaugurate the celebration at the Mariam Nagar Church on Saturday after cutting a cake. A fair also be held as part of the celebration. Speaker of Tripura State Assembly Ratan Chakraborty will open the fair.

Christmas carol and other religious activities are going on with colours and éclat. Community celebrations and cultural extravaganza are on the card. Celebrations and religious activities will be held at Churches attached to Holy Cross, Don Bosco and Auxillium.

With the Covid-threat is relatively less, a large gathering at the Mariyam Nagar and other churches is expected.   Children are expecting the midnight visit of grand ol’ Santa Clause while the elders are planning for a gala celebration and bash on Christmas night.

The tourist spots of the State are expecting a huge crowd – as families are planning picnics, travel and fun. The Oxygen Park and Bansh Bagan near Agartala are two of the sites that many families are planning to travel.

In Tripura, people of all religious faiths participate in festivals of every religion with fanfare and Christmas is also being celebrated by communities of all religions. All are ready to say ‘Merry Christmas’ in a big way tomorrow.  

Governor of Tripura Satyadeo Narain Arya and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb have greeted the people of the State on the eve of Christmas.
