Buoyed at the increasing trend in GST collections, the Government of Tripura is eyeing to raise the tax collection further and touch the Rs 3000 crore mark in the coming days, said Finance Minister of Tripura Pranajit Singha Roy on Saturday in Agartala. 

 

He said, Since the introduction of the GST in the country on July 1, 2017, the tax collections increased from over Rs 1300 crore to Rs 2765 crore in the last Financial Year,

 

Singha Roy was addressing an event titled, “Celebration of GST Day 2023” today, on July 1, the day GST was rolled out across the country by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017.

 

Among others, Finance Secretary Brijesh Pandey, Additional Secretary Finance Akinchan Sarkar, Chief Commissioner of State Tax Rakhi Biswasand Joint Commissioner of CGST Samuel Waipu were present in the programme.

“Money collected from taxes is spent on the development of the country. Taxpayers play an important role in the overall development, strengthening the country and taking it forward by filing taxes at the right amount and right time”, Singha Roy said.

 

On a Day when Tripura along with the country was celebrating the 6th year of the GST rollout, a PIB press release revealed Tripura recorded 19 percent growth in GST collections in June 2023 compared to the same month of the previous year.

 

According to the PIB, total Rs 62.99 crore was collected on June 2022 which increased by 19 percent to Rs 75.15 crore in June 2023.

 

The Finance Minister expressed gratitude to the Tax Officials, staff and above all the taxpayers for the successful implementation of GST in the State.

 

He acknowledged that there are some issues that need to be addressed and he asserted that regular exercises are in force to resolve the issues.

 

Speaking on the occasion, State Finance Secretary Brigesh Pandey thanked the taxpayers and urged the eligible traders to join the GST and participate in the overall development of the country.

 

While the transparency of the GST system was widely discussed in today’s event, the Chief Commissioner of State Tax, Rakhi Biswas said, the transportation of goods has become faster after the introduction of GST owing to the benefits of the e-way bill. She, however, acknowledged there are some issues with the input credit system which will be sorted out soon.

 

To encourage taxpayers, total 30 taxpayers were felicitated in the programme with mementos and certificates.
