The Health Department of Tripura is taking steps to implement the Mukhya Mantri Jana Aarogya Yojana very soon as stated in the State Budget 2023-24. According to a government press release, the Health Secretary of the State said during a review meeting chaired by Finance Minister of Tripura, Pranajit Singha Roy.

This Mukhya Mantri Jana Aarogya Yojana is a universal health insurance scheme on the pattern of Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY of the Central Government. According to the State budget statement, the State Government will spend about Rs 59 crore per annum.

Once the Yojana is implemented 4.75 lakh families who are out of the ambit of the Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY would be benefitted and the government would provide insurance benefit upto Rs 5 lakh per annum per family.     

Meantime, taking part in today’s review meeting, the Finance Minister issued a directive to the concerned officials, urging them to execute the projects scheduled for 2023-24 within the current year.

He convened a meeting with Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Special Secretaries, and Directors from various government departments to assess the progress of the Special Assistance Capital Schemes at the Secretariat.

The primary goal of the meeting was to ensure efficient use of the allocated budget and guarantee the welfare of the public, said the Finance Minister. He also provided specific instructions for the utilization of funds disbursed by the central government during the ongoing fiscal year.

Furthermore, the Finance Minister conducted an extensive review of Externally-Aided Projects (EAP), including initiatives such as sustainable catchment forest management in Tripura, enhancing climate resilience in forest ecosystems, promoting biodiversity, and bolstering adaptive capacities of forest-dependent communities in Tripura.

Other projects scrutinized included the Agartala City Urban Development Project, the Tripura Power Generation Up-gradation and Distribution Rehabilitation Improvement project, as well as state-sponsored projects under the purview of the Chief Minister.

Several high-ranking officials attended the meeting, including Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department, Puneet Agarwal; Principal Secretary of Fisheries, B.S. Mishra; Secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty; Secretary of Tourism, U.K. Chakma; Secretary of Janajati Welfare, L.T. Darlong; Secretary of Rural Development, Sandeep R. Rathod; and Secretary of the Education Department, Raval Hamendra Kumar.

Subsequently, when speaking to the media, the Finance Minister disclosed that the state government’s budget allocation for the fiscal year 2023-24 stands at Rs. 27,654 crore. In this context, he urged the respective departments to take proactive measures to ensure the timely implementation of all projects, with a particular emphasis on the development of indigenous communities, education, healthcare, agriculture, and capital investments.
