Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen on Thursday accepted a proposal on MLA Jadab Lal Debnath issue and sent the matter to the Ethics Committee of Tripura Assembly.
BJP MLA Jadab Lal Debnath was allegedly watching an obscene video during the previous assembly session – the first session of the 13th Assembly.
The video clip went viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism from all quarters.
The 55-year-old leader, who is also the secretary of BJP’s Tripura state unit, however said that when he received a phone call then a site was automatically opened and he immediately closed it.
As the 4-day Budget session commenced on July 7 last, All the members of the TMP, CPI-M and the Congress led by their leaders went to the well of the house and started shouting demanding action against Debnath and the noisy scene continued for over 40 minutes.
The Opposion MLAs were alleging that the act of Debnath tarnished the sanctity and pride of the Assembly.
During the chaos on July 7, the three TMP legislators as part of their protests climbed on the table of the house, in which assembly staff recording the proceedings of the house.
On the last day of the Budget session today, BJP MLA Kishore Barman proposed to send the Jadab Lal Debnath issue to the Ethics Committee.
He said, “I feel it is necessary to verify the allegation that claimed the sanctity of the Assembly was violated. Based on the allegation and sensing the gravity of the allegation, I propose to send the issue to the Ethics Committee of the State Assembly”.
This immediately caused an exchange of verbal attacks between the ruling party and Opposition MLAs. Targeting the opposition bench, Minister Ratan Lal Nath said this is called democracy.
After getting the proposal, the Speaker announced that the matter would be sent to the Ethics Committee as per rules to assess the allegation against Jadab Lal Debnath.
