The State-level Under-17 Girls’ and Boys’ Football tournament witnessed triumphs of the Tripura Sports School teams. 

In Girls’ final, Tripura Sports School Team scripted a thumping victory over the West District – thanks to hat-tricks by Shreya Deb and Marina Jamatia. In the Boys’ final Tripura Sports School team recorded a 2-0 win against the Dhalai District team.

Tripura Sports School won the state championship in the Under-17 Girls’ Football Tournament by defeating West District 7-0 in the final match held at the BKI Ground in Belonia on Saturday.

In the Girls’ category, Tripura Sports School dominated the match from the start, leading 5-0 at halftime. Keya Debbarma scored the first goal for the Sports School in the 12th minute of the play, and then Sreya Deb and Marina Jamatia ran riot. Both the players hit hat-triks  scoring three goals each.  

The Sports School’s manager, Pranab Akhand, expressed happiness with his team’s performance. “We are a deserving champion,” he said.

In the Boys’ category, Tripura Sports School also won the state championship in the Under-17 Boys’ Football Tournament, defeating Dhalai District 2-0 in the final match held at the Shantinagar School Ground in Sonamura under Sepahijala District, on Saturday.

The match was a close contest, but the Sports School scored the winning goals in the 30th and 80th minutes. John Jamatia scored both the goals.

The final match was attended by local MLA Bindu Debnath and other dignitaries. Besides, a large number of spectators enjoyed the football battle.

In the award distribution ceremony, MLA Bindu Debnath presented the awards to the champion team. 

In his speech, the MLA said that the state government is working to bring players from the rural level. He urged parents to send their children to the field to play sports, along with their studies.

The final match was attended by a large number of spectators. The people of the area were very happy that the state football tournament was held in Sonamura sub-division for the first time.
