In an attempt to ensure a hassle-free travel experience, prepaid auto services from the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport of Agartala will be re-launched on Tuesday (April 25). The decision to resume pre-paid auto services aimed at addressing the longstanding issue of ‘unruly’ auto drivers who were harassing passengers for a long time.

Transport Minister of Tripura, Sushanta Chowdhury made this announcement after holding a high-level meeting with representatives of auto drivers and various workers’ organizations at the airport’s old terminal building on Monday (April 24).

The Minister will re-launch the service tomorrow from the MBB Airport.

During the meeting, Chowdhury discussed the problems raised by the auto drivers and assured them that steps would be taken to address their concerns. He also mentioned that the meeting aimed at finding a permanent solution to the issue of unruly auto drivers, who are hampering the process for a long time.

According to Chowdhury, there have been several instances of auto drivers harassing passengers coming to Agartala airport. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, he said, adding that appropriate action would be taken if any such allegations arise in the future.

The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Transport Department U.K. Chakma, Commissioner of Transport Subrata Chowdhury, Director of MBB Airport Kailash Chandra Meena, IG (Crime and Intelligence) L. Darlong, Director of transport department Tapan Kumar Das, and other security officials.

The re-launch of the prepaid auto service is expected to bring much-needed relief to passengers arriving at the airport, who have often been at the mercy of unruly auto drivers.

The service will allow passengers to pay a fixed fare upfront and avoid any hassles or disputes with the drivers. The move is also expected to bring some discipline among the auto drivers and ensure that they adhere to the rules and regulations and ensure delivering better services to passengers.

The decision was cheered by many frequent travelers who opined the relaunch of the prepaid auto service at Maharaja Bir Bikram airport is a welcome move. The Transport Minister’s assurance – who is also the Tourism Minister,- of taking appropriate action against any harassment of air passengers was also welcomed by many.

In addition to benefiting passengers, the re-launch of the prepaid auto service is also expected to give a boost to the tourism sector in the region. Tourists visiting Agartala will now have a reliable and hassle-free mode of transportation from the airport to their destination.
