Trinamool Congress leader of Tripura Mujibar Islam Majumder passed away at 6 .15 am on Wednesday morning at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. He suffered a fatal cardiac arrest. Earlier also he had suffered two massive cardiac arrests. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

 

Tripura-TMC-Mujibar-Islam-Majumder According to sources, his mortal remains will be brought in Agartala from Kolkata on Thursday and later will be taken to his ancestral home at Durgapur in Sonamura – how will be laid to rest there beside his parents’ graveyard.

 

Mujibar was taken to Kolkata hospital for treatment following the attack on him and another TMC leader Subhankar Majumdar allegedly by some BJP supporters on August 28 last at his residence. Besides, Mujibar Islam and Subhankar, three other TMC supporters were injured in the attack.

 

BJP leader Dr Baharul Islam Majumdar is his elder brother. Both Dr Baharul and Mujibar are sons of former Agriculture minister Mansur Ali who contested elections from Boxanagar in 1972, 1978 and 1983.  

 

Mujibar Islam Majumdar following his family’s legacy had always been in politics. He was a student leader of NSUI in the eighties and later joined Congress. He remained with Congress till recently. 

 

He contested on a Congress ticket from Dhanpur in Assembly polls in 1998. From that constituency, Manik Sarkar as CPM candidate and Pratima Bhowmik for BJP also contested. He quit Congress and joined Trinamool Congress in 2015 – however, he later returned to Congress before Assembly Polls in 2018. He rejoined Trinamool Congress in 2021 few weeks before he was attacked.

 

He was known for his amiable nature. Calm and quiet Mujibar Isam was loved and respected by all. Sources said, TMC is planning for a Raj Bhawan Abhiyan when his mortal remains will reach here.
