Eminent litterateur and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury's father Shyamal Chowdhury passed away at a private hospital in the capital Agartala on Sunday morning at 7:40 am while undergoing treatment.
He was born on December 25, 1943.
A distinguished essayist who received the Muktijuddho Maitree Sammanna from the Government of Bangladesh, Shyamal Chowdhury was awarded the Special Literary and Cultural Award for his contribution to the development of education, culture and tradition, as well as various other awards at various times.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed grief at the demise of Sushanta Chowdhury's father. He extended sympathy to the bereaved family.
On Sunday afternoon, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Deepak Majumder, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and other dignitaries and litterateurs of the state paid their last respects at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
"Shyamal Chowdhury's death is a great loss to the literary world of Tripura. He will be remembered for his contributions to the development of the state's literature and culture", dignitaries commented.
