The residents of Vanghmun in Jampui Hill under North Tripura District raised their voices highlighting problems of drinking water supply in the area and demanded early completion of the Rulchukkawn water project as well as the establishment of a DWS office at Vangmun. Several Mizo bodies and Vanghmun Village Council members led the representation.
To press for the demands and mitigate the drinking water crisis issues, villagers submitted a representation to The DM of the North District through the BDO of Jampui Hill RD Block at Vanghmun on Wednesday.
Referring to the Rulchukkawn water project, the villagers demanded, “The work was started during the year 2019-20. However, unfortunately, the project work is yet to be completed. Thus, the acute water problems that we have been facing remain unsolved. Therefore, we strongly demand the early completion and functioning of the project”.
The villagers also demanded the establishment and immediate functioning of the DWS office in their locality. The office of DWS with full-strength staff should be established and start functioning immediately at Vanghmun so as to look after the overall developmental works of DWS.
The people of Vanghmun also pointed out several flaws in the implementation of Drinking Water projects and alleged, although the work of household connection is in progress, it is regretted to mention that the work is very slow as well as the very system like laying, fitting and fixing of pipe-lines etc. is unsatisfactory.
They also alleged about Un-uniform distribution system of water supply. The water from the treatment plant could not deliver to the main storage reservoir as in some locations the main water pipeline is connected with a household connection line.
The representation sought the intervention of the North District DM for addressing the issues to ease the suffering of the poor people.
