Women’s cricket team of Tripura continued their winning streak by defeating Gujarat by 45 runs on Friday.

This was their fifth consecutive win in the Senior Women’s Cricket tournament, which put them at the top of the group with 20 points.

With this impressive performance, Tripura has almost secured their spot in the main round of the competition.

The match was held at MGM School ground in Gujarat, where Tripura won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted a respectable total of 183 runs in the allotted overs, despite a slow start. 

The opening pair of Mouchaiti Debnath and Indrarani Jamatia added 45 runs in 94 balls, before Indrarani was dismissed for 25 runs off 43 balls, hitting five fours.

Moutusi Dey then joined Mouchaiti and the duo built a solid partnership of 91 runs in 152 balls. Mouchaiti scored 59 runs off 133 balls, with three fours, while Moutusi scored 51 runs off 84 balls, with eight fours.

However, after their departure, Tripura lost wickets in quick succession and could not reach the 200-run mark. Hriju Saha chipped in with 16 runs off 16 balls.

Gujarat’s bowling attack was led by Reetika Choudhury, who took four wickets for 22 runs, and Krishna D Patel, who took three wickets for 43 runs.

Chasing 184 runs for victory, Gujarat’s batting line-up crumbled under the pressure of Tripura’s bowlers. They were all out for 138 runs in 43.3 overs, falling short by 45 runs. 

Reetuka Choudhury was the top scorer for Gujarat with 49 runs off 101 balls, hitting four fours. Sanchita S Chagalani scored 23 runs off 48 balls, with two fours, Bhavana Gullani scored 18 runs off 22 balls, with two fours, and Krutikaben scored 13 runs off 17 balls.

Tripura’s bowling star was Hema Hotchanandini, who took three wickets for 28 runs. Priyanka Acharya also claimed two wickets for 26 runs.

Tripura’s next opponent is Jharkhand, whom they will face on January 14.
