Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress leadership raised concerns about the employment prospects for young people in the State. Addressing a press conference in Agartala on Friday, State Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of failing to address the unemployment crisis effectively.
Neel kamal Saha alleged lack of employment opportunities based on qualifications is pushing many youths in Tripura toward addiction. He also alleged, “The BJP is playing with the lives of students and youths. They are misinformed and misled in the name of employment, only to find themselves trapped in the darkness of addiction.”
According to Saha, Tripura ranks second in terms of unemployment rates in the Northeast, with a rate 14.7% higher than the national average. Despite promises of self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) and the pledge of creating 2 crore jobs annually, the BJP ‘failed’ to deliver on its commitments.
The situation is exacerbated by acute shortages of teachers in many schools across Tripura. Simultaneously, a significant number of qualified youths remain unemployed. Saha criticized the state’s chief minister for not taking adequate steps to address this crisis. “While the chief minister is busy inaugurating cricket tournaments,” Saha alleged, “qualified youths continue to suffer without employment opportunities.”
Saha highlighted the challenges faced by job seekers in Tripura. Despite receiving notifications for government job vacancies, qualified candidates often find themselves waiting indefinitely for results and the completion of recruitment processes. When frustrated job seekers take to the streets to demand solutions, they are met with police action—a scenario that he described as unfortunate.
The Youth Congress leader also criticized the present government’s track record. “In the past 10 years of the Modi regime,” the Youth Congress leader lamented, “the government has done nothing substantial to address the concerns of our youth.”
The BJP, which once promised abundant employment opportunities, now contends that not all Indians can secure jobs. Meanwhile, the country grapples with soaring petrol and diesel prices, as well as skyrocketing costs of essential commodities.
As the debate over employment continues, Tripura’s youth remain caught in the crossfire, hoping for meaningful solutions to their pressing concerns.
