TSR Rifleman Sukanta Das who in a fit of fury shot dead two of his officers yesterday was produced before the Court. He was sent to five days police remand.
Soon after killing Inspector ( Subedar) Mark Singh Jamatia and Sub Inspector ( NaibSubedar) Kirana Jamtia, Sukanta arrived at Madhupur police station and surrendered with the service rifle used for the shooting.
A TSR constable Rangadulal Debbarma filed a formal complaint with the police against Sukanta relating to the murders.
BJP condoles TSR troopers’ death, assures punitive action against accused
Tripura Pradesh BJP condoled the tragic death of two TSR jawans by a fellow jawan on Saturday. In a message, State BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said, “The fratricidal incident is unfortunate and there is no word to express sympathy to the bereaved families”.
“The State Government has already reached the bereaved families wholeheartedly. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, breaking the protocol which no other former Chief Ministers did, rushed to the houses of the deceased jawans and paid homage to the jawans yesterday.
Bhattacharjee also pointed out that the Chief Minister had announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to each of the bereaved families. The Chief Minister also assured Die-in-harness facilities for the family members.
Besides, the State Government has promised to conduct a thorough investigation and assured punishment of the culprits.
In this connection, Bhattacharjee pointed out that some of the political leaders were trying to reap political gains from the deaths of the jawans and said such an attitude is not desirable from any leaders and Political parties.
Manik Sarkar wants stern action against accused
A day after two Commanding Officers of the 5th TSR battalion were shot dead by a fellow rifleman, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday urged the government to take stern action against the accused person involved with the incident.

“I am urging the Chief Minister to take immediate action for a high-level investigation into all the incidents. I would also like to ask the Chief Minister to take effective measures to identify the shortcomings in the management of an important force like TSR and address them quickly. I also urge the government to stand by the families of the two slain soldiers,” Sarkar stated.
