Himalayan Black Bear and Fishing Cat are two new attractions for the tourists visiting the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary.
Two new enclosures for the two wild animals were inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma at the Sanctuary on Sunday. Among others, MLA Birendra Kishore Debbarma, PCCF Dr. D K Sharma and Sepahijala District Forest Officer (DFO) Pritam Bhattacharjee were present.
Addressing the inauguration programme Jishnu Dev Verma appealed to the state forest department and general public to come forward and work in unison for Forest and Wildlife preservation. He also pointed the importance of the preservation of forests in maintaining the ecological balance and bio-diversity for the survival of human civilization.
MLA Birendra Kishore Debbarma expressed concern over the role of concerned authority of the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary and said that a series of allegations are being raised against the authority over some irregularities in operation of the Sanctuary.
He had directed the officials of the state forest department to closely monitor the alleged irregularities in the sanctuary and restore the situation so as to run sanctuary in a transparent manner for the welfare of the tourists.
The forest department on Sunday displayed the carcasses of various species of animals preserved in a scientific manner.
Meanwhile, the Clouded Leopard Festival ended on Sunday at Sephaijala Wildlife Sanctuary. In the valedictory function, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the present state government took various programs for the protection of biodiversity. Oxygen Park and Eco Tourism Centre have been set up.
The development of tourism is not possible without forests and wildlife and tourists have an eternal attraction towards these, he opined.
