The two Ukrainians – entered Tripura from Bangladesh and en route to New Delhi from Agartala – arrested in Assam are ATM hackers. The duo – Trishchynsky Volodimir (39) and Nazarii Vozniuk (21) – are part of a six-member gang. The gang operated in Bangladesh.
While Trishchynsky Volodimir and Nazarii Vozniuk were arrested in Badarpur on Friday, the whereabouts of the rest of the four is yet to be known. The duo entered Tripura from Bangladesh and boarded a train from Agartala.
They were picked up from Agartala-New Delhi (Anand Vihar) Tripura Sundari Express train on Thursday night. They were arrested at Badarpur railway station. At present they are lodged in Karimganj police station.
Sources confirmed that three years ago in June 2019, six Ukrainian ATM fraudsters including Trishchynsky Volodimir and Nazarii Vozniuk had been arrested in Bangladesh and were in jail.
Four other fraudsters were Denys Vitomskyi (20) Serheii Ukrainets (33) Oleg Shevchuk (46) and Valentyn Sokolovskyi (37).
They were involved in ATM hacking of the Dutch Bangla Bank ATM booth located in front of Dhaka’s Khilgaon Taltala Market. The gang siphoned off more than BD taka 3 lakh.
They used new technology to withdraw the cash from the ATM booth. Police are trying to find out the technology they used. They would cut off the connection betwo Uktween ATMs and the main server after making calls from their mobile phones and then withdrew money without leaving a trace.,
Trishchynsky Volodimir, son of Vitalyi Trishchynsky is a resident of Berdichev, Novo Ivanouska 3, House No 89, Region Zhibomir, Ukraine. Nazarii Vozniuk, son of Nikolay Vozniuk is a resident of Berdichev, Lupovo 10, House No 84, Region Zhitomyrskyi , Ukraine.
Tripura police was not aware of their presence in the state but senior officers on condition of anonymity said, they had evidently entered Tripura from Bangladesh.
It is not yet clear whether they had been released from jail or had escaped. Evidently, they entered India illegally. Some Bangladeshi takas and Bangladeshi goods were also recovered from them. None of them had proper passports or other legal documents except a driving license.
Sources from Assam said Assam Police had already contacted the Ukrainian embassy in New Delhi to get the details of the duo.
