A total of four medical students of Tripura returned to State safely on Thursday from the war-torn Ukraine. The returnees are Megha Trivedi, Jasmine Debbarma, Upasana Biswas and Diptanu Baidya.
They were evacuated from Ukraine under the Operation Ganga launched by the Government of India.
Meantime, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb felicitated Megha Trivedi and Jasmine Debbarma in Agartala today.
While interacting with the two students and their guardians at the civil secretariat, the Chief Minister extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to bring back the Indian students stranded in Ukraine.
Both Megha and Jasmine shared their horrifying experiences in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. They and guardians thanked the government of India and the Government of Tripura in ensuring their safe evacuation.
Earlier on the day, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik and OSD to the Chief Minister, Sanjay Mishra received the three students – Upasana Biswas, Megha Trivedi and Jasmine Debbarma on their arrival at Maharaja Bir Bikram airport, Agartala.
In a social media post, Pratima Bhowmik wrote, “With the able guidance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the expertise of the Ministry of External Affairs, the safe return of three students from the crisis situation in Ukraine to the holy land of Tripura has become a reality”.
She further wrote, “Along with ensuring the internal security of the country, the excellence of the foreign policy of the Government of India has once again proved to be a glowing example in protecting the citizens residing outside the country”.
Besides, Mishra also on his official Facebook handle wrote that the Chief Minister was constantly in touch with the higher authorities to provide all the required helps to the students of Tripura stranded in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, another student of Belonia under South Tripura – Diptanu Baidya also returned home safe on Thursday. A few more students from South Tripura district, who already crossed the Ukraine border, are expected to reach Tripura in the next two-three days.
