In a desperate bid to prove its relevance in State Politics as well as boost up party workers before upcoming Village council and Urban civic body Polls, Congress is working hard to hit the street in a big way to regain grounds.

As the poll battle for the TTAADC and Agartala Municipal Corporation along with other civic bodies are drawing nearer, the Congress party is planning to hold in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.

Sources in the Congress party said, the party is eager to give a message that the Congress is still alive and it has the potential to put up a fight in TTAADC as well as the AMC polls that are just awaiting an announcement only.

According to sources, senior Congress leaders including central in-charge Kuljit Singh Nagra and Mahila Congress President Susmita Dev will attend the programme.

“Talks are in progress with AICC leader KC Venugopal for his arrival in the rally but things have not finalized yet. The party wants to put all its energy pressing in action, all its wings actively promoting the proposed rally”, said a source in the condition of anonymity.

Speaking on the delay in holding the polls, the source said, the government has wasted enough time and as per the anticipations of the Congress party, the government will declare the polls within the month of January and it is high time for Congress to make its presence felt in order to give a message that the Party is not a waning force in the state, he added.

On being asked on the candidate list, the source said, “This time the Congress has changed its strategy. Preference will be given to the popularity of the leaders. Suggestions of local party leadership will be given preference in selecting the candidate list”.
