The ruling party in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), TIPRA Motha has sought the intervention of the Governor for conducting Village Committee elections that were scheduled to be held last year.
Party activists held similar deputation programmes in all the eight districts of the State.
Activists led by chairman of the TTAADC, Jagadish Debbarma held a procession and delegates submitted a memorandum to Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya to this end on Thursday.
Speaking to the media, Jagadish Debbarma said, deputations demanding immediate conduct of the Village Council polls were given to the District Magistrates (DM) or the Sub-divisional Magistrates addressing the Governor of all the eight districts.
He said, “If there is no elected representative in any one organization, the fund flow of the 15th commission is likely to be affected – this would hamper developmental projects in the ADC areas.”
Debbarma slammed the State Government on this issue and said TIPRA Motha would organize a movement across the state to press for the elections.
He also said the date for holding the elections had expired on March 7, 2021.
“We are giving one month’s time to the state government, or we would organize movement throughout the state”, he told the media.
Even as the elections for the total 587 village committees were scheduled to last year, it could not be held owing to COVID-19 pandemic.
As per schedule TIPRA Motha supporters submitted deputation addressing the Governor to the DM of the Gomati District today demanding immediate conduct of polls in the Village Councils. Local leaders of the party were present in the programme.
In support of the same demand, TIPRA Motha supporters met the DM of the South District over a deputation and submitted a memorandum addressing the Governor. Supporters led by the local leaders held a rally prior to deputation submission.
