Tripura woke up to a rain soaked Monday – thanks to weakening cyclone Jawad. Under its influence, most parts of the State have remained overcast and are experiencing light to moderate rains on Monday.

The influence of Jawad started to be experienced since Sunday with isolated drizzlings. However, the drizzling started to become light rains in the intervening nights of Sunday and Monday. The rains are expected to continue till Tuesday.

Even as cyclone Jawad has weakened further into a depression, the rains – moderate to heavy – continue to lash out in parts of the State including Agartala since Monday. Light rainfall gradually turned into moderate rainfall by Monday afternoon.

In a tweet, India Meteorological Department wrote, “The WML (remnant of Cyclonic Storm ‘JAWAD’) over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts has weakened into a Low Pressure Area over the same region at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 06th December 2021”.

According to IMD, 24.4 mm rainfall was recorded for the period during 8.30 am on Sunday to 5.30am on Monday. The lowest temperature recorded in Agartala in today morning was 20 deg Celsius. Highest temperature during the day is expected to be around 23 deg Celsius.

Cyclone turned into depression, Jawad is expected to trigger rainfall in other Northeastern States as well. The rainfall in the region is expected to continue till Tuesday.

Meanwhile, steady mild to light rainfall in Agartala has hit the daily commuters especially the students. However, traffic movements in and around Agartala remain almost unaffected. Roadside vendors and tea stalls in the city are having a tough time in running the business.

Small vendors in city’s main market – Maharajganj Bazar complained that their business had nosedived today due to the rains.
