Works for Agartala-Akhaura rail link are set to be completed within this year.
After an on site inspection of works of linking project on Friday, Union Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Patil Danve said the construction works of the Agartala-Akhaura Rail link progress will be completed within December 2022.
The MoS who is Tripura on three-day State visit, went to the Nishchintopur railway station and track construction site to inspect the progress of the Agartala-Akhaura railway service expansion on Friday.
During the inspection, R P Danve interacted with the officials of the construction company, BSF officials BGB personnel.
Danve was accompanied by Anshul Gupta, General Manager, North Eastern Frontier Railway, JS Locker, Divisional Railway Manager, Subrata Chowdhury, Additional Secretary, State Transport Department and others.
The Union Minister of State also spoke to the BSF officials. Later, Union Minister of State for Railways Rao Saheb Patil Dhanvi said that he had reviewed the progress of expansion of Agartala-Akhaura railway service. He went to the border and talked to the jawans of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
While talking to border guards of the two countries, the MoS inquired about prevailing border situation.
Border Guard Bangladesh personnel informed the Union Minister of State bi-lateral relations between India-Bangladesh are cordial under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Shiekh Hasina. The Prime Ministers of the two countries have a good friendship, BGB personnel commented The Union Minister expressed satisfaction over the present situation and hoped to further tighten the bond between the two countries through improved connectivity.
To this end, Danve added that once become operational, the Agartala – Akhaura rail connectivity will become boon for people of both the countries. It will be easier for the people of the two countries to travel by rail and ferry goods.
Danve said the Agartala – Akhaura rail link will reduce the travel time from Agartala to Kolkata by 22 hours.
Freight train will run through the broad gauge lines while. The passenger train will travel through the meter gauge, he said.
Referring to his meeting with Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, the MoS said that the Chief Minister has discussed about double track and the survey works for double line would be started soon.
