Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha emphasized his government’s commitment to bolstering the tourism sector in the State.

Dr. Saha extolled Tripura’s abundant natural beauty and the captivating tapestry of its vibrant culture and traditions, which combine to make the state an alluring destination for tourists.

Dr. Saha also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure throughout the state, underscoring the government’s dedication to make this sector more attractive to tourists.

The Chief Minister pointed out former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly was announced as the brand ambassador for Tripura tourism – this is a significant milestone in the state’s tourism promotion efforts.

Notably, Dr. Saha placed paramount importance on ensuring the safety of tourists. In this regard, the government has already made the decision to establish a dedicated tourist police force, enhancing the security and confidence of travelers exploring the state, he said.

Minister for Tourism, Sushanta Chowdhury, also outlined an ambitious project, backed by the Asian Development Bank, with an investment of Rs. 169 crore to develop and revamp tourist destinations across Tripura. 

Furthermore, significant funding allocations of Rs. 90 crore under Swadesh Darshan-I and Rs. 140 crore under Swadesh Darshan-II will be directed towards elevating the appeal of key tourist spots within the state.

Chowdhury lauded Vidyasagar village in the Mohanpur block under the West district of Tripura for its remarkable contributions to rural tourism, underscoring the importance of such local efforts in Tripura’s tourism landscape.

Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma disclosed the state’s commitment to invest approximately Rs. 1,000 crore over the next five years to fuel the growth of the Tripura tourism industry.

The ceremony also featured the presence of Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder. During the event’s inauguration, six key stakeholders were honored for their substantial contributions to tourism promotion, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the industry.

Besides, the winners of a debate competition, organized in celebration of World Tourism Day, were recognized for their outstanding performance: Papia Shome secured the first position, followed by Abhishek Debnath in second place, and Ritam Janapati in third place.

The observance of World Tourism Day concluded with a vibrant cultural extravaganza, featuring the participation of renowned artists, further showcasing Tripura’s cultural richness to the world.
