Death of a 28 years old drug addict in Tripura, once again, exposed the danger of drug abuse and highlighted the need for more intensive and concerted efforts in the battle against the deadly drug menace.
Tushar Kanti Das (28), a young individual hailing from Ghaniarbil village under Teliamura Police Station, tragically collapsed and succumbed to his addiction on Sunday ( May 14).
Despite his parents’ tireless efforts to rescue their son from the clutches of drugs, the desperation reached a tipping point, leading them to send Tushar to his Paternal aunt’s house in Charipara, Agartala, just days before the unfortunate incident. Although Tushar was under strict vigil at the aunt’s house, he managed to obtain and consume drugs, resulting in his untimely demise within the premises of his aunt’s residence in Charipara.
Tushar’s death is a loud alarm bell sounding that Tripura remains deeply entrenched in the grip of a harrowing drug menace that poses a severe threat to its youth.
Despite relentless efforts by security personnel in conducting raids and seizing drugs and contraband items, the situation remains dire, with young individuals from various backgrounds falling prey to the destructive grip of substance abuse.
The security personnel are successfully seizing and even arresting the drug peddlers, but the drug business is continuing as the top heads of this trade remain elusive and free.
In an ongoing endeavor to combat the drug trade, the Police apprehended two individuals, Dibakar Majumder and Gautam Dey, in relation to drug trafficking activities in the Udaipur Gakulpur area today. Police need to reach arrested peddlers’ masters and take action, otherwise the drug network will continue to plague the State.
Experts, deeply concerned about the escalating crisis, warn that the state’s youth are hurtling towards an impending disaster. Even students, the future pillars of society, are not immune to the clutches of drug addiction, further exacerbating the problem.
Despite the State Government’s commendable initiatives to tackle drug trafficking and addiction, the grip of this menacing issue grows tighter with each passing day, ensnaring the younger generation in its perilous web.
Realising that Police alone will be not sufficient to combat against well knitted drug network, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called upon community organizations, NGOs, and clubs along with the parents to unite in the battle against drugs.
Recognizing that a collective effort from all facets of society is imperative, Dr. Saha emphasizes that the time has come for a united movement to eradicate this grave menace once and for all.
The devastating loss of young lives, such as that of Tushar Kanti Das, serves as a somber reminder of the urgency to address this crisis head-on and protect the future of Tripura’s youth.
According to social activists, as the state grapples with this pressing issue, it is crucial for individuals, families, communities, and authorities to work hand in hand, raising awareness, providing support systems, and fostering an environment where drug abuse is recognized as a grave threat to the well-being of society as a whole.
Only through concerted and unwavering efforts can Tripura hope to break free from the clutches of the drug menace and ensure a brighter, drug-free future for its youth, activists opined.
