The youth wing of the ruling BJP, Yuva Morcha in Tripura triggered another split in opposition parties at Bishalgarh in Sepahijala District on Tuesday as several families joined the saffron camp quitting Congress and CPM.
On an earlier occasion in the same locality, Yuva Morcha roped in two close associates of the Congress in the district who held a good influence among the people in the area.
The joining programmes in the area are crucial as most of the new entrants are known to be supporters of Congress leader Samir Roy Barman and his family. Erosion in the support base at Bishalgarh will make it harder in elections, Political analysts observed.
State BJP general secretary Tinku Roy and Yuva Morcha State president Nabadal Banik along with other leaders were present in today’s joining meeting.
Roy told the media, a total of 60 voters from 22 families left the CPM and Congress parties and formally joined the BJP today.
Without naming BJP turncoat Sudip Roy Barman, the Yuva Morcha president alleged Roy Barman worked for the Congress during the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls when he was a BJP MLA. He blamed Roy Barman for working as Team B of the Communists to keep the CPM in power.
One of the persons who joined the BJP today said they are turning away from the Congress party condemning the violent activities unleashed allegedly by Congress in the capital on February 26 last.
Most of those who left other parties and joined the BJP in today’s meeting are known to be followers of the Barman family. Today’s joining dealt another blow to the support base for the Barman family in Bishalgarh, sources said.
