Nesha Mukt Tripura : Community participation against drug peddlers
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s call for ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’ is gaining momentum as people are participating in busting drug trading in respective local areas. In one such incident of community participation, people of Shil Tila under Udaipur Matabari Constituency in Tripura waited for the right moment to catch the drug peddlers and succeeded to detain two drug smugglers. However, the leader of the smugglers managed to flee. The incident took place on Thursday. Later the people handed over the drug smugglers to police at R.K. Pur Police Station.
Sources said, one Rakesh Nama was running drug business from his residence at Shil Para for long time. After a careful watch, locals nabbed some youths believed to be customers. At last, people succeeded in catching Rakesh Nama and Goutam Lodh. In the melee, the main supplier of drugs Basudeb Dey managed to flee. Locals handed over the duo to the police.
Live bullet triggers panic
Residents of Gandachhera woke to a Friday that brought sensation as well as panic after a live bullet was found lying on the road.
Sources said, local people noticed a live bullet lying near a vegetable market along the Gandachhera-Raishyabari road in Gandachhera. As the report spread, it sparked tension among the people. Police were immediately informed. Police recovered the bullet and investigating the case.
Road rage claims one
In yet another road mishap a class XII student named Ripan Debbarma (22) of village Hari Pur, Ampi Nagar Gumati Tripura was killed while his pillion rider was injured. The accident occurred at in Taichakma village near Twidu Bari in Tripura along Teliamura-Amar Pur main road on Friday. Ripan who was driving a bike with a pillion rider died after his bike collided with a Bolero Maxi Truck. Ripan succumbed to his injuries on the way to GB Hospital in Agartala.
