Crime Branch sleuths carried out an 11-hour long raid at the Ramnagar residence of former CPM MLA Pabitra Kar in Agartala on Friday. Simultaneous raids were conducted at his two residences at Kheyerpur near Agartala.
According to Pabitra Kar, Ramnagar residence is in the name of his wife which she got from her parents.
During the prolonged raid at his Ramnagar residence, Crime Branch conducted intensive raid and checked various documents. According to Pabitra Kar, the Crime Branch seized his passbook etc but did not seize any jewelry or money.
Speaking about the raid, a source said, “The raid was carried out in connection with a case filed against Kar at Bodhjungnagar police station by a Vigilance officer a few days ago. During the search, the team found some documents including ‘benami’ papers”. However, Kar did not mention about any benami papers.
The source also said that the papers would now be verified and then the appropriate steps would be taken in case of anything ‘disproportionate’.
According to Kar, separate raid was carried out at his other house at Khayerpur at the same time on Friday.
Meanwhile, the case docket was sent to the Crime Branch for investigation on July 6 last.
In his reaction, Kar said that the Crime Branch officers had entered his residence at 8 am. “When I asked about the search warrant, they said a magistrate is present with the team following which the warrant was not needed. I extended total cooperation to the Crime Branch,” Kar told the media.
Speaking to media, Kar said that he had nothing to hide and sported a confident posture even after rigorous raids at his house.
