In prompt action, Tripura Police nailed all of the eight accused involved in gang raping four girls including three minors. According Police, all the arrested persons confessed their crime. Police were successful in arresting all the accused within 24 hours of the crime.
According to sources, an FIR was lodged by the family members of the victim girls with Srinagar PS under West Tripura District on June 12 last and based on the FIR, Police swung into action immediately. Owing to swift action by Police, all of the eight persons, aged between 19-21 years, had been put behind the bar.
Soon after receiving the complaint, Police started operation and were successful in nabbing seven out of the eight accused. All the seven youth were produced before the court. The last one was caught on Monday evening. Cases under POCSO Act were slapped against the offenders.
The arrested youth were identified as Ripan Debbarma (19), Sajal Debbarma (20), Manajit Debbarma (19), Bir Kumar Debbarma (21), Bimal Debbarma (20), Chanki Debbarma (19), Bishal Debbarma (21) and Ajay Debbarma.
It is learnt, the girls who are residents of a village under Srinagar Police Station were invited by the arrested youth to meet them in a nearby rubber plantation. After the girls reached there, the arrested youth gang raped the girls.
Sources claimed, all the accused persons fled away after committing the crime leaving the hapless girls. Later, the girls managed to return home somehow and narrated the whole thing to their parents. After that, the family members lodged complaint with Srinagar Police station.
Local people hailed the role of Tripura Police and expressed hope that the culprits would get stern punishment.
