The central government has sanctioned Rs. 490 crore for upgradation of Maharaja Bir Bikram airport. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik extended gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Civil Aviation Minister.
The announcement came from Union Minister for Civil Aviation- Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Thursday during his interaction with media on unveiling of a 100-day plan for the civil aviation sector.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a social media post extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Civil Aviation Minister for announcing the development plan for MBB airport.
According to Deb, the centre has allocated Rs. 490 crore for upgradation of the MBB airport.
At present, MBB Airport has a capacity of 500 passengers per hour. It would be upgraded to 1200 passengers per hour after the implementation of the project proposed by the central government, Deb wrote on Facebook handle.
Meanwhile, in his reply to Deb, the Union Minister tweeted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government would put in every effort to bring robust air connectivity for the people of Tripura.
In her congratulatory tweet, MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik wrote, “Under the able leadership of Hon. PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, Tripura is marching ahead on the path of development. On behalf of the people of #Tripura extending warm gratitude to Civil Aviation Minister Sh. @JM_Scindia Ji for unveiling the up-gradation plan for Agartala Airport.
According to reports, the 100-day scheme will continue from 30th August to 30th November. It has 16 main points – 4 of which are under infrastructure, 8 under policy targets, and 4 under reforms.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Minister told the media that the first airport will be in Kushinagar that would have the capacity for the successful landing of Airbus 321 and Boeing 737 flights. Kushinagar will become the focal point of the Buddhist circuit. The other airports would be constructed in Jewar and Uttarakhand’s Dehradun (new terminal).
