One day after more than 1900kg ganja haul, Tripura Police and BSF jawans recovered over 470kg from two different places on Saturday.
Police seized 380 Kgs of dry ganja from an outbound truck at Hawaibari national highway in Teliamura sub-division on Saturday. Police arrested a total of 2 persons including the driver and co-driver.
The incident took place on Saturday at around 8 am after the Teliamura sub-division traffic DSP Bikramjit Shukla Das acting on a tip-off rushed to Hawaibari Naka point to intercept the vehicle bearing number PB13AR 6245.
Police searched the vehicle and seized a total of 380 Kgs of dry ganja from 42 sealed packets.
The DSP along with Teliamura traffic ASI Inderjit Debbarma and department staff were waiting at the Naka point since 3 am in the dawn hours of Saturday to intercept the vehicle. Police arrested the driver identified as Ranjit Singh and the co-driver- Surjit Singh. Both of them are from Punjab.
The traffic DSP said, “We have learned from the interrogation that the ganja packets were loaded on the truck from another small vehicle at Khayerpur by-pass road.”
He said that list of the heads behind this ganja smugglings have recently come up with the police. He however refused to disclose further information for the sake of ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) in a five-hour-long joint operation with local police on Saturday morning seized 293 Kgs of dry Ganja stored on plastic drums at a village in Block Tilla of Kalshimura gram panchayat under Kalamcherra police station.
Acting on a tip-off the 74th battalion of BSF jointly with the police conducted the search operation at one Manoranjan Sarkar’s house to recover the dry ganja stored separately on 8 plastic drums. The market value of the seized ganja is worth Rs. 15 lakhs.
However, police failed to detain the house owner Manoranjan Sarkar as he ran away prior to the search operation has started. A case was registered against him under the NDPS Act at Kalamchaura police station.
