Simmering tension in Karbook Sub-division and parts of Amarpur sub-division in Tripura is palpable as alleged supporters of TIPRA Motha attacked and assaulted BJP activists as well as ransacked BJP Mondal Office in last 24 hours.
Since Wednesday night, clashes started between supporters of BJP and Motha at Bhomrachhara area under Amarpur in which at least four BJP activists sustained injuries. Tension is running high in the area.
In another incident, BJP Mandal president of Amarpur, Sanjoy Chakraborty came under attack. He was attacked on his way to Amarpur from Natunbazar on Thursday.
According to local sources, after Chakraborty’s car reached at Chelagang area, bike borne miscreants chased his car. Miscreants also started pelting stones.
The driver of vehicle in which Chakraborty was travelling, somehow managed to drive down to the 5th Bn TSR camp at Daluma to evade the attack. As TSR jawans rushed out of the camp, miscreants fled away. However, Chakraborty’s car was badly damaged.
As the report spread, BJP local leaders and supporters started gathering and tension was building up.
Chakraborty blamed TIPRA Motha and CPM supporters for the attack. He alleged that TIPRA Motha supporters along with CPM launched the vicious attack on his life.
Condemning the attack, BJP leaders said such attacks would not succeed in stopping forward march of BJP. TIPRA Motha supporters are creating trouble in VCs and as a result developmental activities have been affected. People will give them a reply in polls, BJP leaders said.
Shifting focus from Amarpur Karbook, reports of vandalism started pouring in. Alleged supporters of TIPRA Motha ransacked BJP Mandal Office at Karbook on Thursday.
They also locked the Office of Karbook Block Chairman, Asim Tripura. Later, Motha supporters held a protest rally at Karbook Bazaar.
Agitating Motha supporters alleged that BJP workers were attacking Motha activists at Jhajharia, Khedarnal, Natunbazar, Bhanu Para, Bhomrachhara and other places.
“We are being attacked by BJP and we are holding a protest rally in Karbook bazaar”, Motha activists said.
