  • The Chief Minister ruled out internal divisions within the BJP and predicted a bigger victory margin than in the previous election.

With the BJP fielding candidates in all 51 wards of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday (November 6) projected a sweeping victory for the party in the upcoming civic elections. He expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects across Tripura’s municipalities and Nagar Panchayats, banking on its development record and organisational unity.

The Chief Minister made the remarks as BJP candidates for all 51 wards of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) filed their nomination papers at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Agartala. Dr Saha remained present during the nomination process.

A large gathering of BJP leaders, party workers and supporters accompanied the candidates. The event marked a significant step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming municipal elections.

Dr Saha Banks on Development Record for Civic Polls

Addressing the gathering, Dr Saha said BJP workers were enthusiastic about the elections. He expressed confidence that the party’s development record would help it secure victories across the state’s civic bodies.

He specifically referred to development work undertaken in the Agartala Municipal Corporation and other municipal areas.

“Our party workers are enthusiastic. I am confident that, given the development we have undertaken in the Agartala Municipal Corporation and other civic bodies, we will win across all municipalities and Nagar Panchayats in the coming elections,” he said.

The Chief Minister also claimed that nearly 70 to 80 per cent of the people were already supporting the BJP.

He projected this claimed public support as a major advantage for the ruling party ahead of the civic elections. His remarks reflected the BJP’s confidence as it began its formal electoral preparations in Agartala.

BJP Avoids Comment on Opposition’s Internal Differences

Dr Saha also targeted opposition parties over their internal differences. He said political divisions were visible not only in Tripura but also in several other states.

Referring to disagreements among opposition leaders on social media, he said their internal affairs were not something the BJP needed to comment on.

“They can decide how they want to contest the elections. We are with the people, and the people are with us. We will continue to move forward in our own way,” the Chief Minister said.

He maintained that the BJP would focus on its own electoral preparations rather than get involved in the opposition’s internal disputes.

His comments came as political parties gradually intensified their activities ahead of the municipal elections.

CM Rejects Speculation Over BJP Infighting

The Chief Minister also dismissed suggestions that internal differences could weaken the BJP before the elections.

He said opposition parties were waiting for disagreements within the ruling party. According to him, they hoped to exploit any internal conflict to improve their electoral prospects.

Dr Saha referred to the political developments of 1977-78 while responding to the issue. He said the opposition was expecting a repeat of internal divisions but would not see such expectations fulfilled.

“I do not think their expectations will ever be fulfilled. We are moving forward in our own way. We were united earlier, and we remain united today. No matter what provocative attempts they make, they will not succeed,” he said.

He described the BJP’s organisational structure as strong and asserted that party members would not abandon one another to pursue individual political ambitions.

According to the Chief Minister, the party’s unity would remain intact despite attempts to create differences within its ranks.

BJP Targets Bigger Victory Margin

Dr Saha concluded with a confident prediction about the BJP’s electoral performance. He said the party would secure a bigger victory margin in the upcoming elections than it achieved in the previous polls.

The statement signalled the BJP’s ambition to strengthen its position across Tripura’s urban local bodies.

The filing of nominations by candidates in all 51 AMC wards also demonstrated the party’s readiness to contest the Agartala civic elections across the corporation’s entire electoral area.

With the nomination process underway, political activity is expected to gather further momentum as parties prepare to challenge one another in the upcoming civic polls.
