The woman began treatment at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital in 2025. Professor (Dr) Jayanta Ray, head of the department, supervised the treatment. Assistant Professor Dr Abhijit Sheel treated the patient.
IUI Treatment Leads to Pregnancy
Doctors performed IUI on November 21, 2025. The procedure involved placing the husband’s sperm inside the woman’s uterus.
IUI is an assisted reproductive procedure in which prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus to increase the chances of fertilisation. It is generally used before more advanced treatments such as In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).
The procedure resulted in a successful pregnancy.
According to the hospital, this is the second case in Tripura in which IUI-assisted conception at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital has resulted in childbirth.
Baby Boy Delivered at GBP Hospital
The woman delivered a baby boy on July 28, 2026. The child weighed 2.9 kg at birth.
Doctors performed the delivery through a Caesarean section.
The medical team included Professor (Dr) Jayanta Ray, Assistant Professor (Dr) Abhijit Sheel, Associate Professor (Dr) Salil Bindu Chakraborty and Dr Suparna Sutradhar, among others.
The mother and newborn were discharged from the hospital on August 1.
