Agartala, August 15: Maharaja Bir Bikram University (MBB University) celebrated the 80th Independence Day on Saturday with patriotic fervour on its campus in Agartala.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bibhas Deb unfurled the national flag to begin the programme. Registrar Dr. Sumanta Chakraborty and Acting Controller of Examinations Dr. Runu Dhar attended the event.
Faculty members, university officials, employees and students also joined the celebration.
Unity Pledge Taken
Following the flag unfurling, Prof. Deb led participants in the “Independence and Unity” pledge.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor recalled India’s long struggle for freedom. He said the country achieved independence through sacrifice, struggle and the loss of many lives.
Prof. Deb said India has made significant progress during the eight decades since independence. He highlighted the country’s achievements in research, science, philosophy, yoga, sports and space exploration.
