Agartala: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar is scheduled to arrive in Tripura on July 28 for a two-day visit to attend programmes on women and child welfare, Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma said.
Rahatkar will participate in events organised by the state government and the Tripura Women’s Commission during her stay.
Her visit aims to strengthen initiatives in the social welfare sector with a special focus on women and children, Debbarma told reporters on the sidelines of a fitness-related programme.
On July 29, Rahatkar will attend an awareness programme on child marriage and its social impact at Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur under Gomati district.
On July 30, she will participate in another awareness programme on stalking at Noah Hotel in Agartala. The Tripura Women’s Commission will organise both events, Debbarma said.
The visit comes as the Social Welfare and Social Education Department continues to intensify its campaign against child marriage through awareness drives and welfare measures.
The department has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to discourage early marriage while extending financial support to vulnerable families. It has also strengthened social protection measures for girls and women.
Debbarma highlighted the Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibah Yojana, under which daughters of Antyodaya families receive financial assistance of ₹50,000 after attaining the legal marriage age of 18 years.
She also referred to the Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana, which provides a fixed deposit of ₹50,000 for girl children born into Antyodaya families. Beneficiaries can access the amount after turning 18 years of age for higher education or marriage-related expenses.

Apart from launching welfare schemes, the state government has organised special administrative camps across Tripura to improve access to these benefits and increase awareness among eligible families, Debbarma said.
Officials said Rahatkar’s visit is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts to promote women’s rights, child protection and social awareness in the northeastern state.
