Tripura will launch the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of the electoral roll from September 5, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on December 23. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated the exercise to prepare a transparent, updated and error-free electoral roll by enrolling eligible voters while removing duplicate, shifted and deceased electors.

Electoral Roll Revision Drive in Tripura
Agartala August 07: The Election Commission has selected Tripura among 19 states and Union Territories for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, a comprehensive exercise aimed at strengthening the accuracy of electoral rolls ahead of future elections.
Announcing the schedule at a press conference in Agartala on Friday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Brijesh Pandey said the revision exercise would begin on September 5 and conclude with the publication of the final electoral roll on December 23.
He said the initiative is designed to make the voters’ list more transparent, reliable and up to date. The exercise will identify and remove the names of deceased, duplicate and relocated voters while ensuring that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll.
October 1 Fixed as Qualifying Date
Pandey said October 1, 2026, has been fixed as the qualifying date for voter eligibility.
Citizens who attain the age of 18 years on or before that date will be eligible to register as new voters during the revision process.
He said the objective is to create a clean electoral database that accurately reflects the state’s eligible electorate.
Door-to-Door Verification from September 15
As part of the revision exercise, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct a statewide door-to-door survey between September 15 and October 14.
During the visits, BLOs will distribute enumeration forms and assist residents in filling them. No supporting documents will be collected at this stage. Instead, officials will only receive the completed forms.
To ensure that no eligible voter is left out, BLOs have been instructed to visit each household at least three times if residents are unavailable during the first visit.
Electors who prefer digital services can also complete and submit the enumeration forms through the ECINET App or the Election Commission’s online portal. If additional verification becomes necessary, the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) may seek supporting documents after the publication of the draft electoral roll.
Draft Roll on October 21; Claims Till November 20
The draft electoral roll will be published on October 21 at designated locations, on the official website and will also be shared with recognised political parties.
Following its publication, citizens will have one month—from October 21 to November 20—to submit applications for inclusion, correction or deletion of names and raise objections regarding any entry in the electoral roll.
Election authorities will dispose of all claims and objections by December 19, before releasing the final electoral roll on December 23.
Nearly 29 Lakh Voters in Tripura
According to the CEO, Tripura currently has around 28.97 lakh registered voters across its 60 Assembly constituencies.
Of the total electorate, 14.52 lakh are male and 14.45 lakh are female voters.
To conduct the exercise, the Election Department has deployed 3,356 Booth Level Officers and 375 BLO Supervisors, covering all 3,356 polling stations in the state.
Pandey also said that the 2005 electoral roll has been uploaded to the CEO’s official website to help citizens verify voter information during the revision process.
Training Completed; Help Desks to Assist Voters
The Election Department has completed training programmes for District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), BLOs, Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and representatives of political parties.
Political parties have also been briefed on the revision process at the state, district and subdivision levels.
To facilitate public participation, help desks will operate in every district and subdivision, while toll-free helplines will remain functional at both the state and district levels.
Pandey said voters dissatisfied with an ERO’s decision would have the right to appeal before the District Election Officer and subsequently before the Chief Electoral Officer.
CEO Urges Public to Ignore Rumours
Calling for collective participation, the CEO appealed to political parties, media organisations and citizens to cooperate in making the Special Intensive Revision successful.
He emphasised that a credible electoral roll is the foundation of free, fair and transparent elections. He also advised people not to rely on rumours or misinformation and instead follow updates only through the Election Commission’s official website and verified social media platforms.
“The objective is simple,” he said, “to ensure that no genuine voter is left out while no ineligible name remains in the electoral roll.”
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Usha J. Mog and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Suman Banik also attended the press conference.
