Agartala, October 25, 2019: Six Panchayats of the State were conferred the National Panchayat Awards 2019 in New Delhi on October 23 last on various categories. MP Pratima Bhoumik met the representatives of the winning Panchayats of the State and congratulated them in New Delhi. Out of the six winning panchayats, three are from Gomati district while one each from West, North and Khowai district of Tripura.
Chandrapur GP of Matabari block under Gomati district won Child Friendly Gram Panchayat. This award has been instituted during the year 2018-19 for best performing GPs/Village Councils (VCs) (one in each State/UT) for adopting child-friendly practices.
Madhya Singichhera under Khowai block in Khowai district bagged Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar. This award has been given to Gram Panchayats (GPs) for their outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development by involving Gram Sabhas.
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP) has been given to best performing Panchayats (District, Intermediate and Gram) in recognition of the good work done for improving delivery of services and public goods.
Under general category district level DDUPSP went to West Tripura while Kadamtala block under North district bagged the award. At the gram level, Atharobhola and Noabari Village Councils under Killa Block in Gomati district were awarded.
In total 240 pachayats out of total 2.5 lakh panchayats across the country were conferred the National Panchayat Awards 2019. Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar conferred the awards. Congratulating the award winners, Narendra Singh Tomar called upon every panchayat to move ahead for making a new India.
The Minister said that Gram Panchayats and Sarpanchs should fully utilize the powers given to them and should formulate the Development Plans for their panchayats at the earliest to effectively implement the Government programs.
