Agartala, August 29, 2019: Lack of toilets, drinking water and above all shortage of teachers prompted students of a rural school in Tripura to come out and hold six-hour long road blockade. Students of Jagabandhu Para HS (+2) today blocked Gandachhera-Ambassa road at Ultachhera under Dhalai district today.
The agitating students, including girls staged road blockade in support of 9-point demand including demand for addressing shortage of teachers, lack of drinking water facility, toilets etc.
“Our school is reeling under multiple problems. Shortage of teachers is the prime problem while lack of drinking water, toilets and other infrastructural facilities are posing problems for school children. We came down to road to draw attention of the authority and solve the problems”, slogan shouting students told.
The 6-hour long blockade threw the vehicular movement out of gear and hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road.
Later, the SDM of Gandachhera sub-division in Dhalai and officials of concerned departments held 2-hour long meeting with students and initiated action to address students’ grievances and demands.
