After hectic political campaigns, it is time to vote now . The electorates of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) are set to exercise their franchise on Tuesday. With 157 candidates in the fray representing various political parties, 8, 65,041 voters are eligible to cast their valuable mandate.
The whole TTAADC areas had been put under strict security shield with increased security deployment and repeated patrolling. The poll personnel had also started for respective polling stations with EVMs and other important stuff. Polling is expected to begin from 8 am in the morning and the results will be declared on April 10 next. Section 144 CrPc was also promulgated.
Altogether 6,949 poll personnel were engaged with the job of conducting the polls along with 5,358 security personnel. Moreover, 61 police stations in total had been put on high alert for the elections.
The high-pitch political campaigning came to an end on Sunday as the time limit for the vocal campaigning was over. All the political parties applied their force to make their presence felt in the elections.
As per the political standings are concerned, ruling parties BJP and IPFT although were at odds in the beginning, stitched an alliance prior to the polls landing the ruling alliance at a strong position. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and other senior leaders of the party played pivotal role in giving party’s campaign a shape.
Opposition CPIM also tried its best to reconnect with people and regain its lost stronghold. IPFT and other anti-Left parties have seemingly wiped out the party’s bastions in the hills. However, the party still hopes they will put up a strong g fight.
The Congress party had also worked hard and organized considerable number of political rallies at times when some even doubted the party would not be in the condition to put candidates in all seats.
Apart from that, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman led TIPRA that technically ate up all the small players (Parties with less presence) had also maintained a good show having a number of well attended rallies in its account.
According to the state election commission press communiqué, altogether, 157 candidates are contesting in the elections. A total of 8,65,041 voters including 4,36,548 male and 4,28,490 female voters are eligible to cast their votes at 1,244 polling stations set up in 1,060 places across Tripura.
However, 185 candidates filed their nomination, but four were rejected after scrutiny. Later, 24 candidates withdrew their nomination papers consisting of 21 independent candidates, 1 alternative candidate of CPIM and 1 candidate each of TSP and INPT.
