Agartala Apr 17: Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Social Justice and Empowerment, B.L. Verma, emphasized that the development of Tripura is among the Central Government’s top priorities.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Belonia Circuit House during his two-day visit to the state on Wednesday, Verma said that combined efforts of both the Centre and the State Government are driving Tripura’s rapid progress.
The Union MoS visited the Tripureswari Temple in Udaipur on Thursday before returning Agartala.
Highlighting the impact of the Double Engine Model Government model, the Union Minister said, “I have come to Belonia to see whether the people of Tripura are benefiting from this model.
After interacting with public representatives, government officials, and local citizens, I am satisfied with the developmental initiatives being undertaken.”
25 Crore People Lifted Out of Poverty Under Modi Government
Touching upon the national scenario, Minister Verma stated that 25 crore Indians have been lifted out of poverty since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office.
“Our government is focused on the welfare of the poor, women, youth, and farmers. We have maintained transparency and curbed corruption across welfare programs,” he added.
He noted that over 53 crore bank accounts have been opened under financial inclusion initiatives, many with zero balance, and funds from various government schemes are now being transferred directly to beneficiaries’ accounts.
Vision for a Developed India by 2047
Verma reaffirmed Prime Minister Modi’s vision of building a developed and prosperous India by 2047. “The government is working with dedication to make this vision a reality,” he said.
He also highlighted reforms for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), including changing terminology to promote dignity and launching targeted welfare schemes.
“Plans are underway to increase reservation quotas for Divyangjan in education and employment,” he revealed.
The government is also simplifying identification processes and is committed to ensuring their greater participation in national development.

Once the assistive equipment manufacturing unit in Bishalgarh is operational, a storage and distribution hub in South Tripura will be established to ensure timely access to mobility aids and support tools.
The press conference was attended by Tripura’s District Magistrate and Collector Mohammad Sajad P., and Additional District Magistrate Pradeep K., among other senior officials.
