October 02, 2017 : Journalists of Tripura are continuing their agitation demanding CBI probe into the murder of reporter Santanu Bhowmik. As part of the agitation, journalists today held an hour long sit-in demonstration in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Circuit House area. The demonstration of the members of all the 11 journalists’ bodies was led by Tripura News Paper Society president Subal Kumar Dey.
Dey, who is also editor of Syandan Patrika, was spearheading the agitation. He alleged that there was evident negligence on the part of Tripura police on the fateful day. He also smelt a rat behind the killing of the young reporter.
Santanu Bhowmik, a reporter with a local TV channel was brutally murdered on September 20 while he was covering the political clash between supporters of IPFT and ruling CPM.
The state government has already formed an SIT headed by IGP G K Rao, but the journalists kept on pressing for a CBI investigation into the murder. In the meantime, police had arrested three people, including main accused Sachin Debbarma for the murder.
