October 05, 2017: Determined to crack the reporter Shantanu Bhowmik’s murder case, Police arrested one more accused yesterday and produced him to Court. Sources said, one Swapan Debbarma was arrested in connection with brutal murder of Shantanau Bhowmik. Court sent Swapan to Jail custody. Three other persons were arrested earlier and undergoing interrogation.
Sources said, after formation of SIT to probe into the gruesome murder case, Police geared up and are conducting investigation to identify the miscreants associated with the murder.
Shantanu Bhowmik, a TV channel reporter was hacked to death when he went to cover a clash between CPIM and IPFT supporters on September 20 at Mandai in West Tripura. It was alleged, some miscreants, allegedly belonging to IPFT, got hold of Shantanu and dragged him to nearby jungle. Later Police recovered blood strained and grievously injured Shantanu and sent him to Hospital where he died soon.
Controversies regarding investigating authority soon surfaced as a dominant section of media demanded CBI inquiry while the State Government ordered Special Investigation Team (SIT) to carry out the probe.
With the arrest of Swapan Debbarma, Police is hoping to get some additional clues and few more miscreants are expected to be nabbed.
