October 15: The Central Government under PM Modi has launched series of schemes aiming to generate employment through entrepreneurship. Mudra Yojna is one of those highly publicized schemes. Most of these schemes came up within first couple years after Modi Government was formed in May 2014. But will new entrepreneurs be able to survive in present market conditions when economy is slowed down.
The Government has recently launched another round of initiatives to encourage youths to become self reliant by taking loans and starting entrepreneurial activities. As part of the initiative, a Mudra Protsahan Abhiyaan on October 14 in Agartala in which Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Santosh Kumar Gangawar also elaborately focused on benefits Mudra Yojna. Despite all the attempts by Modi Government to encourage youths to go for entrepreneurial activities for self sufficiency, the economy is sliding backwards and unemployment rate is jumping in every quarter in a year.
It is obvious that schemes like Mudra Yojna, Start up India, Stand up India have failed to create sufficient impact in the economy so far. In fact, new entrepreneurs – after taking loans and joining in Start Up programme – are reeling under multiple problems. With whole economy and manufacturing as well as agricultural sector struggling, the new entrepreneurs are starting their ventures with highly unfavourable conditions leading to losses and ultimately end up with closing the Unit – dream to Stand Up remain elusive.
Economists argued that demonetization and GST implementation during unfavoural global cues had thrown the economy in disarray. In a situation where big industries and long time entrepreneurs are finding it tough to sustain, new entrepreneurs are obviously in a mess.
Moreover, many of the new entrepreneurs prefer jobs rather than starting own production or business houses. However, with job market shrinking fast, many of the job applicants have become loan applicants without knowing whether they have entrepreneurial qualities. Distinction between job applicant and loan applicant is what is being ignored grossly leading to failure of the system to pull out the economy with the help of schemes like Mudra and Start Up. Segregation of job applicants from loan applicants is essential.
