October 16, 2017: Incidence of cattle smuggling into Bangladesh once again came into fore after a BSF Commandant was grievously injured by cattle smugglers along the Indo-Bangla Border in Tripura. The Commandant had to be flown to Kolkata for treatment. The incidence took place along the border in Sonamura.
Sources said, Commandant Dipak Kumar Mandal of 145 battalion BSF and jawans were patrolling the India-Bangladesh border on Sunday late night at Belardhepa under Sonamura subdivision in Sepahijala district. Meanwhile, a vehicle loaded with cattle for smuggling into Bangladesh hit Dipak Kumar and he sustained serious injuries. Considering his condition, he was flown to Kolkata and admitted in a private hospital.
Tripura Police have arrested the vehicle driver and investigating the case. Senior Police officials rushed into the spot.
