People of Tripura remembered the ‘architect of Modern Tripura’ – Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya on his 112th birth anniversary on Wednesday. Across the State, several programmes were held to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Maharaja. Expectedly, the celebration was a low-key affair due Covid19 pandemic.
Immediately after assuming power, BJP-IPFT government put focus on Maharaja Bir Bikram’s contribution and vision in developing Tripura. Accordingly, for the first time in state’s history that the new government declared Maharaja’s birth day as a holiday paying humble respect the king.
Earlier, as per the initiative taken by the new government, the Agartala airport was renamed after Maharaja Bir Bikram and statue of the Maharaja was installed at the airport highlighting his importance in shaping future of the State.
Today, on his 112th birth anniversary several dignitaries including Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb paid floral tribute to Maharaja and recalled his vision.
After paying his tribute to Maharaja Bir Bikram at Benuban Vihar, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said the state government is committed and working to fulfil the dreams of Maharaja. The Chief Minister on his social media handle said, “Tripura will remain ever grateful to him for his relentless service to State through his modern thinking and hard work. Our Govt is committed to serve the State and its people inspired by the vision of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman.”
Later speaking to media, the Chief Minister said that Maharaja Bir Bikram had taken several important steps including setting up of Airport during his reign to build modern Tripura. He also said that the present government was trying to fulfil the dream of Maharaja Bir Bikram in transforming Tripura into a model state.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Secretary of Information and Culture Affairs department Shailendra Singh, Director Ratan Biswas and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
Besides, Tripura MP Pratima Bhoumik also paid tributes to the Maharaja. Tripura Pradesh Congress chief and other Congress leaders also recalled Maharaja’s contributions and paid tributes at Congress Bhavan in Agartala. Several regional Parties also paid tributes to the Maharaja on this occasion.
MBB University, named after the Maharaja also celebrated the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman in a befitting manner following Covid19 guidelines.
Apart from capital city Agartala, birth Anniversary of the Maharaja was celebrated in sub-divisional towns, rural areas and even in some remote hamlets. People different communities attended the programme to pay homage to the Maharaja.
