Congress President Sonia Gandhi assured that her party was ready to support the Naga peace accord only if the contents of the agreement were in the interest of the Nagas, North east and the nation. Sonia told this to the Parliamentary Working Committee, PWC of the Joint Legislators Forum of the NLA on Naga political issue led by NLA speaker Chotisuh Sazo, Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang and Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio who called on her at her residence. According to a release, Mrs. Gandhi said that Congress party is not privy to the contents of the Naga peace accord and cannot give a blank cheque of support as of now, but when the Government reveals the contents for discussion in the Parliament, the party will support it. The Congress President also hit out at the Central Government for keeping the country in the dark about the contents, nature and status of the peace dialogue. She however expressed solidarity with the Naga people for the need to find an amicable, honourable and permanent peace.
